Pilot Knob: Schumann Preserve

November 2022 | Fort Ann, NY

Lake George Region, Adirondacks

Note: this does not take you to the Pilot Knob mountain summit, which is also the site of a Mohawk Airlines plane crash that sadly occurred in 1969 off of the true summit (this is also a bushwhack.) One day, I will get around to hiking it and will report back.

Getting there: you can type in to Google Maps “Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob, Fort Ann, NY” and it will take you to the accurate trailhead.

From the Village of Lake George: find your way to Beach Road (past Million Dollar Beach) and make a left onto NY- 9L S for 6.3 miles. Make a left onto Pilot Knob Road and the small parking lot will be on your right in ~0.7 miles. It will take about 15 minutes. If you reach the Post Office on your right, you went too far.

There is no fee to park and you will most likely have some cell service.
