Tom, Field, and Willey

June 30, 2023 | Crawford Notch State Park

The background: This was it: my (official) start to my NH 48 journey. While I had hiked Mount Osceola in 2019 on a whim during a visit, I did not have concrete plans back then to summit all 48. This time was different, and this trio of hikes would be my first hike in the region since that time. My plan was to get out the door at 5AM, make the 7-hour drive to NH, and spend the afternoon hiking this loop. I chose these because I had heard they were on the “easier” side (although you’ll learn this is all relative…) what I was NOT anticipating, was how tired, dehydrated I was, as well as the extreme humidity that slowed me down significantly. All wonderful learnings…but a bit of a rough start to the week I had planned up there. Read on for more below!

The hike: Clockwise, 9.8 miles (15.77km) ~3,440 feet (1,048m) elevation gain.
